Friday the 13th: Kavilan’s Day

It came a day too soon. Thursday. 12th July. As soon as I reached home, I discovered I can’t access my site. Damn! After sending an email and waiting an hour later, I had news from my hosting service that they had just recovered from a DDoS attack. Oh well. Okay. After a while, I wasn’t able to connect still. I then tried with a proxy website. I was able to reach the site. Then it finally dawned upon me. TM Net Streamyx had somehow managed to fuck up the connection to MY website. Great.

Friday the 13th. The next day. I still wasn’t able to connect to my website. A few messages from friends had also alerted me that all Streamyx customers weren’t able to go anywhere near my site. I had foreseen this. That’s why I got up a bit early just to fuck up the life of one unlucky Streamyx support staff. I dialed the already memorized number: 1-300-88-9515. After being connected, I started my barrage of questions.

It was truly Friday the 13th for me. It was just my rotten fucking luck that I got a support person who spoke with the voice of Marge Simpson and also, mumbles while speaking. Seriously, I couldn’t fucking understand a single word she said. After a few attempts of explaining the problem, she suggested one of the most revolutionary methods EVER to solve my problem: Turn my modem off, and on again. WOW! That could really solve my problem, lady. Thanks. For nothing!!!

It didn’t help for me to try and explain to her that I’m not calling to ask for help on some lame connectivity problems. I just wanted to know why does EVERY single Streamyx customer in Malaysia wasn’t able to reach my site. I gave up after my 4th attempt.

Well, it was still the morning of Friday the 13th. On my way to work, it started raining. Heavily. I mean really heavy. The rain seeped through my “waterproof” jacket and I was totally wet from neck to toe by the time I reached the office. Well, maybe I deserved it coz I was too stingy to pay parking charges for my car, which lead me to bring my bike to work everyday.

At work, it was the usual. My PC crashed three times that day as opposed to three times a week. And I also placed a complaint on TM Net’s online customer complaint system regarding the problem I had.

This is what I wrote to TM Net:

I cannot access my website: www.kavilan.com. I get an error message that says the page is unavailable. According to my hosting service, there is nothing wrong with the site. And I can also access the site using a proxy website. Why can’t I directly access the site? I cannot access from either my work or home. In fact, all my friends who are subscribing to TMNET cannot access my site.

Here’s what they replied to me:

With regards to your difficulty on accesing the website (www.kavilan.com), please note that we are unable to browse the website as well. We would like to advise you to refer to your IT personnel to check your network configuration or setting.

WHAT THE FUCK?!!! NO WONDER MALAYSIAN BROADBAND SUCKS. WE HAVE PEOPLE WHO ARE VERY WELL FITTED TO GIVE FUCKING STUPID ANSWERS.
