My Family Song: The Video Clip

I have, on several occasions in the past, mentioned about my “family” song. No, it’s not a song for my mom and dad and bro. It’s the theme song of the house that I lived in during my university days. There were six of us living there at that time: Eric, Vinod, Dinesh, Letchu, Sathiam and yours truly. We were truly a great bunch. This song is entitled Surti & Tejo and it was sung by an Indonesian band called Jamrud. Yeah. I know. Their name sounds funny. The song lyrics and video clip is even FUNNIER

During our tri-monthly drinking sessions, we would be singing this song together (everyone being drunk except for Eric; he doesn’t drink). After finishing the 1st bottle, we would be in a happy-enough mood. So we would play this video clip, and sing along to it. I dunno why we ever liked it so much, but we did, and it became a ritual. We promised that every time the six of us sat together there, we would sing this song. Everyone knows this song by heart. Though there is a certain “feel” to sing along the video clip. We even adopted two stray kittens and named them Surti and Tejo.

Before I left the place after completing my studies, we promised to meet up with each other at least once a year, to drink and reminisce. Come this August 23rd, I’d be happy to keep to that promise.
