The Truly Lovely Saxophone Music

Music from a saxophone is quite soothing. Well, at least for me it does. What’s even more soothing is to hear a great saxophonist combine western saxophone tunes to the classical Indian carnatic music. This is none other than the talented Mr Kadri Gopalnath, one of the pioneers of carnatic music on the saxophone. Here, I have two samples of his music, and rest assured that this is NOT a typical Indian music score.
I fell in love with his saxophone playing through a Tamil movie, entitled “Duet”. It’s a story of two brothers (who are musicians) falling in love with the same girl. But that’s not the focus of this post. The movie was a musical one, and the saxophone rules all of the movie’s songs, as the movie’s protagonist is a saxophone player. Truth be told, I didn’t even know who was behind the lovely tunes, until a friend of mine revealed his name: Kadri Gopalnath.

The two tracks you are about to hear are from the movie’s score. The first one is a sad sax theme, running around one and a half minutes. The second one is the title melody of the movie, played in the background when the movie starts and it shows the movie’s protagonist character standing on rocks along the beach, playing his saxophone while waves come crashing unto the rocks. A truly beautiful scene. Enjoy.
