Is HINDRAF All About The Money? I Don’t Think So.
I am not a member of HINDRAF. Thus I cannot really speak up on their behalf. But this is what I think. The rally was never about the money. It was about standing up. Sure, some people are thronging certain areas where certain HINDRAF lawyers were held in custody, and maybe some were in the delusion of getting that large sum of money. But I did not hear anyone say, write or preach that they WILL get us Indians the money. The money can never help. Sure, some moolah may get me into a better house with better living conditions; a better university to study medicine; and such. But none of it matters in the end of the day when the last cent is spent and we end up at square one.
In my humble opinion, I think the rally, the handing of the memorandum, and the lawsuit is merely a wake up call. Yes, true, we have been sleeping, or merely awake but lying dormant. People who were living in denial, with misleading information fed to them to keep them quiet, are now realising what has become of their community, of themselves and their children. The misinformed have at least learnt some facts regarding certain issues in the country deemed to be to “sensitive” issues by the government. The handing of the memorandum is merely a show of unity among the Indians who want the simple basic human rights restored to them.
We all know the disemmination of information in our country is a lopsided one. Alternative media is only available on cyberspace. And with access to the internet concentrated on the urban areas, where does this fact leave the rural areas? They are left with the government-controlled media and after years of “brainwashing”, we are left with people who are none the wiser as they were 20 or 30 years ago. The rally on tomorrow did only one thing thing, that is to call for attention.
Attention is being called from all over Malaysia. And attention is spread to all places outside Malaysia. I know that the British wouldn’t care two hoots about Malaysia. I know we ain’t gonna be able to win that ridiculous amount of money. But I know that the people are finally rising asking for a change. But we know that change can never be asked, it must be done by the ones who want change. Without this rally tomorrow, can we imagine when would the Indians finally take some initiative to do something about their deplorable state? Had anything such as this happened before?
You must forgive me, if I have been selfish and only been talking about the Indian community. I should have been talking about the whole Malaysian community, you might say to me. Well, yes. But let me ask you this. Before the whole of Malaysia unites, don’t you think everyone should be educated and informed of all the needed facts? Wouldn’t it be called absurdity if we stand together without knowing what are we standing for? So, again, in my humble opinion, what better way than to first learn about your own plights and problems? When we have come to this understanding, then it is time to learn the plight of others. Wouldn’t it be easier to find a common ground among all of us Malaysians then?
Now, HINDRAF, the Hindu Rights Action Force, has stepped up asking the ones responsible to safeguard the rights of Hindus. It is my utmost hope, that it will one day trancend religion and become the Malaysian Indian Rights Action Force, which would grow to become the Malaysian Rights Action Force. From religion based, to race based, to citizen based. We shall grow step by step. And now, the first step has been laid.
At least now, the power-mongers have started to see what could happen if Malaysia finally unites.
PS: Please forgive the crudeness of the article; I didn’t have much time to properly arrange its structure and contents as I am rushing to do some errands.

Yeah..it’s nonsense that they’re gonna give each and everyone that amount of money..
But 1 thing’s for sure though..
somebody gonna get hurt real bad..
I don’t know who…but somebody..
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

It’s written in the Bible….
Wait…a moment..why at first place the government let the HINDRAF group to ‘ask’…imm as usual…once it’s been highlighted then only action will be taken…For this case it will be? Don’t forget ‘biasness’ is at first place above law in every angle of any system, only here.
So much for being independent… : Mei @ Gentle Ethereal Musings
Dear Mei,
-WITHOUT PREJUDICE- Well..well..well, again you got it wrong. And your replies itself carries the flaws! Allow me to enlighten you again (as in your own words).
1) In your 1st and 6th Para - highlighting the flaws in the existing system! The Government! So you tell me - if all the means to redress the grievances in this government including meeting the Prime Minister itself becomes futile - what you expect people to do ?
Sit and make noises (like what most of them do to get self pity! without any FURTHER ACTIONS) or go outside and seek for THE SOURCE. At least be happy that something is being done - rather than NOTHING. If you are in their shoes, then you know the meaning of pain of being USED UP! Anyway-one needs a locus standi - before speaking out. Or worst still blaming someone, not knowing what is difficulty in life like is after sheer HARDWORK.
2) In your 2nd Para - please do not mislead readers for the sake of writing to voice out different insight. Please do your homework / research before you start writing. The VIRTUE of a good writer is to BRING TO LIGHT THE TRUTH AND MAKE PEOPLE TO BE AWARE OF KNOWLEDGE. Or not it will be just like how Malaysian counsel at Petra Branca matter was made fun for picking out unreliable pictures of the light house - again from a BLOG and WIKIPEDIA! It’s a shame, how some immature blogglers could mislead people with their immature materials. I have seen some good bloggers who made their material worth of reading and enlighten readers in the same time – because they are responsible. There is a method of evaluating a website for referencing. I can’t teach you everything. Do a research, if you still have a doubt then come back to me. I’m glad to assist you.
3) In your 3rd Para - there is a protocol for quoting references. I don’t see what referencing system you used? Harvard? Vancouver? Oxford? In quoting wikipedia (not just cutting and pasting the link - will do any justice to your referencing - easy work huh!). There is no acknowledgement procedure in the form of bibliography. So now I think I have made my point enough here. My answer is DO A GOOD RESEARCH B4 WRITING.
As to 2 million Indian - I’m surprised as to how you can even READ WRONGLY!!! Too. I have stated 2 millionaires Indians not 2 million Indian. Please refer to your original article. This gives you all more reason to be careful in what you are writing and reading too!
4) Again here I shall point you to your own words “assumption”. You should have clearly made a statement without any assumption. Better still you live in Malaysia! If you are not biased - and able to see the reality with open eyes - you can see what I mean. Try to read my replies without any emotions here. It’s not the money which the Indian are after, as how nicely you have again linked to The Star papers article - and thinking the suit itself a futile action. BUT, it is the first step for a revolution - to protect all Malaysian minority rights! It also every single human being rights in Malaysia! That includes - all the category of people you have just named in your present reply. Please TRY to see the BIGGER PICTURE for god sake. At least we have the satisfaction that we tried rather than sitting around in our cocoon and trying to find fault in the sacred effort made by the lawyers. Get the REAL FACTS of the CASE strait first. Not from some newspaper articles, to start with!
5) In your 5th Para – I can’t blame you right away for not knowing it. I should blame the suppressed media, first. To enlighten you again – look at the sheer hard work the HINDRAF Indian Lawyers are doing for our community. I am very proud of them thou! At least something is being done, rather than nothing at all.
Please don’t bother yourself of reminding the current state of the country – especially to me. I quote your own words “This country is where it is today because of ALL of us and not just the contributions of a certain group of people”
All out there knows the truth. That is basis of the whole suit is all about. If I had not considered that, I wouldn’t have highlighted the poor section of our Chinese community too. Look at you – it’s a shame that you have the tendency to split and highlight it in your reply. When are you going to see it as One Identity?? Try actually living abroad for a while (I didn’t mean holidays, please), then you will know the taste of having your rights and self respect.
As a blogger you have to face criticism in any form. It is for you to improve in the future. In fact you must be very lucky that I have highlighted this to you, for your blog’s betterment. Otherwise, your blog will be like an empty vessel. Always remember, not local Malaysian are reading your blogs but also foreigners. So please try to maintain a good standard of blogs.
Sometimes truth hurts – I didn’t really mean to belittle you, but just want you to be responsible writer. Again, it’s you have put up some ridiculous icons! Try reading my reply this time by detaching your emotion and see the bigger picture, for real. Don’t get emotional; it will cloud your intelligence. Good day.
u r right. it quite impossible for HINDRAF to win such case against the British but it is a wake up call. probably today’s rally is THE wake up call!
ammu.
Dear tulipspeaks,
Thank you for your honest opinion.
History has proven again - look at Australia - people was putting on with their old government for some time-now decided for a change and it received its reward yesterday… long battle past 11 years, gave them a new government! with better protection & prosperity.
So, now all Malaysian Indian should realize that its times up! Stop the NoActionTalkOnly case! - “ok lah”, “tak apalah”, u name it - kind of attitude, and proceed to improvise us and our community.
Basically just ask one question “what I want for my family AND my community as a WHOLE”.
Believe in changes! Look at the matter in totality. Its not a political stunt as many ignorant people are claiming BUT the protection and delivery of basic human right. Look its our basic human rights! most of it has been mutilated.
Imagine, when all the lawyers went for “walk of justice” recently, they have been named “crazy lawyers” by the prominent defacto minister at law. Whats more to say??? I rest my case!
Because of HINDRAF and http://www.policewatchmalaysia.com, the world media is becoming aware of the Malaysian Minority Plights.
Had not for them, it will be in silence forever…. Lets all of us hope for the best.
U guys saw the MIC idiot speak over Al Jazeera?
He sounds eerily similar to that other Idiot who spoke over Al Jazeera during Bersih….BN must’ve been having some sortta “Interview Template” for these incompetent fools by the looks of it.
I agree with you! The rally has nothing to do with money. It is about letting the voice heard!
You know like so many others i was ignorant as well and thought it was all about the money. Thank god a lot of people enlightened me

Since I staying in Uncle Sam areas I never even know about these things were going on if I didn’t have Internet connection.
Let see whats going on tomorrow. I want to see how far the authorities can go to suppress our rights.
I wish the rally could get coverage from foreign medias (at least the authorities won’t do some massive action - I mean no guts. Takut maruah Goblok tercemarrrrrrr. )
