KaV’s Kollage Is A Year Old!

Guys, KaV’s Kollage is a year old aledi! Woohooo! 13k hits for the first year… That’s better than what I expected!

Here’s a little history of how I got started. While in uni, and when Friendster was the rage all around, I was posting up some thoughts of mine in the Friendster blogs and also the bulletin board. By and by, these posts got numerous and the response I got from my friends were very much encouraging. Well, everything was randomly posted in the bulletin board at first, and then I slowly progressed to the blogs. My posts were mostly in the style of parodies and spoofs, and it reflected my humorous thoughts and sarcastic opinions well.

I first ventured out to read blogs extensively during my first job (which was last year) when I had frequent bouts of boredom attacking me. Before that, I only knew about RPK and Marina Mahathir. At 23 years old, I was seriously lagging behind the blog phenomenon. Later on, I discovered bloggers who struck chords in me, like Mahendran from Bolehland, Ammu from Tulipspeaks, Puvanan from The Blank Page, Balajoe from BJ Thoughts, Sabrina from Booby Rants and many others. It was about the same time when some of the fans of my writings advised me to start a blog and do more regular postings of my ideas and idiosyncracies. I too felt so much drawn to the blogging world. The sense of freedom of expression was too hard to resist.

So I surveyed around to get me a proper hosting service. I rejected Blogger coz, well, it was too rigid. Plus, I was a web programmer. I had to look further up ahead and wanted to have my own domain name, with possible expansions in the future. Thus, Lunarpages gave me my first hosting package with attractive terms, and kavilan.com was registered. After slowly building up this site with a Wordpress installation, I started compiling and posting my previous posts from Friendster up in here. It wasn’t long before Mahen, Ammu, Balajoe, Sabrina, Puvanan, Saravanan, Dante and Kesh helped me out with traffic by adding me on their blogrolls. They all have my most sincere thanks and appreciation for helping me reach out in the blogosphere.

My first post was on June 11th 2007, and that was the birth of Kav’s Kollage. Most of my original posts were based on satire and sarcasm, but as time went by, I did venture out into some socio-political postings now and then, with some entertainment posts shooting up once in a while. I didn’t want to narrow down my thoughts into a single niche. My blog was the reflection of my thoughts on everything. A personal blog. A representation of me in the cyber world. And I loved being able to write. A dash of drama, a cup of sarcasm, a pinch of thrill, a spoonful of crazyness, and a whole lotta Kavilan!

This blog made me reach out to people I never knew existed. I managed to become good frens with a guy who was my university junior’s brother. I enjoyed reading a blog authored by the daughter of a teacher who taught in my primary school. These kinds of coincidences are such a delight for me.

So, I send my many thanks to all those who have supported me, debated with me, argued with me to help make this blog better. Thanks to even those who actually tried to discourage me on starting this blog, coz I wouldn’t have had the urge to prove you detractors wrong and say Fuck You. Everyone is always welcomed here, and here’s to a great year and many more coming on! Cheers folks!
