Comics of Gods and Goddesses of Vedic (Hindu) Literature

Gods and Goddesses of Vedic literature are often looked upon as external deities, when in fact they are symbolic and specific expression of higher archetypal states of consciousness. When that archtypal state of consciousness is expressed or incarnates through us, we become capable of grand and extraordinary accomplishments.

Each and every God in he pantheon, represents various forces and elements that lay in embryo in each of us. Emulate them. Cultivate the qualities of consciousness that they represent in your awareness and you too can accomplish great things.

- Quoted from Deepak Chopra, in India Authentic Issue #1, published by Virgin Comics

If you wanna know more about the Gods and Goddesses of the Hindu culture, but can’t stand to listen or read monotonous narrations, the India Authentic series is the comic for you. Created by Deepak Chopra, the series tells very personalized stories with human interests in mind. I don’t need to tell you that the art is totally super kick-ass.

Watchmen: Graphic Novel and Movie Comparisons & Theatrical Trailer

For those of you who do not poke around much with Hollywood movie news, Watchmen is an upcoming graphic novel-adapted flick to be released in June 2009. Watchmen was a Hugo Award winning novel (the only graphic novel to do so). The movie will be in the veins of 300, which incidentally is also directed by the same person, Zack Snyder.

The picture comparisons are at the bottom, but before that, a little gist on Watchmen. Don’t worry. NO SPOILERS here.

Comic Book Characters Which Hollywood Had Screwed

We all flock to the theaters when comic book movie adaptations hit the screens. We look forward to be entertained and have our fantasies revisited. Usually, there are two types of people who go watch comic adapatations in theater. The ones who read comics, and the ones who don’t. I’m of the former.

Whenever I see such movies, I always draw comparisons with the comics. And you cannot blame me if I get mad at these arrogant Hollywood people who think that they can potray those characters anyway they want it to be, just to make a quick buck. Not all characters were “raped”. Tony Stark/Iron Man was played to near perfection; every scene looked like a page from the comics. Christopher Nolan’s Batman reminded me of the gritty character from The Killing Joke and Batman: Year One. Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Ian McKellen as Magneto had dialogue deliveries that were close to the stuff you’d see in the X-Men comics.

But most often than not, Hollywood manages to fuck things up. They do crappy interpretations of characters on screen, that they piss us comic fanboys. Here are some of the characters which weren’t done justice to (IMHO):

Marvel’s Civil War: Captain America’s Death (Part 3 of 3)

This is my 3rd and final part of my Marvel’s Civil War write up. Today, I’ll be concentrating on the 5-issue limited series which takes a gander at the aftermath of Captain America’s death by assasination. The series is entitled as Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America. Each of the 5 issues deal with the 5 stages of grief by 5 different people: Denial (Wolverine), Anger (The Avengers), Bargaining (Captain America), Depression (Spider-Man), and Acceptance (Iron Man). And I’ve also got 10 more juicy pictures… But before that, we’ll take a look at what each issue holds.

Marvel’s Civil War: The Events in Brief (Part 2 of 3)

Here’s the 2nd part of my posts on Marvel’s Civil War. In this post, I’d be writing about the major events that happened in the Marvel universe before, during and after the Civil War. Now, since most Malaysians don’t have access to comic book stores which supply regular comics, AND since the movie industry ALWAYS wants to make a comic book to movie transition with their OWN storyline, many readers wouldn’t be familiar with most of the characters in the Marvel universe other than Spidey (Peter Parker), Cap America (Steve Rogers), Iron Man (Tony Stark), the X-Men, and the Fantastic 4.

Now, here’s a brief rundown of the events that happened:
